7th Grade - Summer Math and Reading Assignments
Summer is here, school is out, desks are empty, and locker doors are shut!
While the end of school signals that wonderful feeling of release from homework, the “summer slide” can quickly set in.
In order to avoid the “summer slide” (that time when your brain shuts down and you forget all that you learned in school throughout the year),
I am assigning a summer reading project.
This summer all incoming 7th graders must read one of the 3 books listed:
Roll of Thunder Hear, My Cry by Mildred Taylor
The Enemy by Sara Holbrook
Countdown by Deborah Wiles
After you have chosen a book and read it, you must complete all three assignments listed below which will demonstrate what you have learned from the book.
Fill in both pages of the attached worksheet
Continue the Story. The story ends on a runway in Africa - in Countdown, on the way to Inga’s house - The Enemy , or after the fire - Rool of Thunder Hear my Cry.
How would you continue the story? Write a sequel to the story on at least two pages. Use Times New Roman 12 font single space, and remember, we do not skip an extra space between paragraphs. This should be written in 3rd person Omniscient Objective, summarizing the events that may have taken place after the ending scene moving forward with the main characters lives. No dialogue is needed as you are just describing what happens after the book story ends. This is your version of what would happen afterwards.
Design and create an original tattoo that relates to the story. The colored design can be hand drawn or created digitally. You must include a well written paragraph explaining how the tattoo connects to the story. (If you are reading The Enemy, Swastikas cannot be used.)
Project Due Date: Monday, August 28 (our 1st day of school)
Please click the red button above and print the Summer Math pages. There are even blank pages which you may use to show your work.
Pace yourself. Do not wait until the last minute to complete this assignment.
All math pages are due on the very first day of school, and the use of calculators is not allowed.
This will be your first grade for Math class.
Have a wonderful Summer!
