First School Mass Friday, September 3, 2010 Warm Weather Uniforms Allowed*
|
OUR FOURTH ANNUAL STA GOLF TOURNAMENT IS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 15, 2010
See attached flyer for details of this first exciting event of the new school year!
*Friday, September 3 – Students are allowed to wear the warm weather uniform for Mass until after Columbus Day.
Morning Drop-off – For those who drive their children to school, please use the first (nearest to the school sidewalk) and third lanes in the parking lot. Also, please drive up as close to the far end as possible to allow more cars into the lot and not interrupt the traffic flow of Rollins Street.
Bus Lane – You have probably noticed that the lane lines extend closer to the Moody Street exit. This was done to increase parking capacity for Masses. However, for school purposes cars should stay behind the old line which was approximately at the end of the school sidewalk to allow for a Bus Lane.

OPEN HOUSE/ JACK AGATI PARENT PRESENTATION |
There will be an informal Open House on Thursday, September 9th for parents of students in Grades K – 8. From 6 – 7 PM, parents will gather in the Aquinas Center for a presentation by well-known speaker, Jack Agati. He will focus on child development. Following the presentation, parents are invited to tour their child’s classroom from 7 – 7:45 PM. Just a reminder that this evening is a chance for each teacher to give parents an overview of class routines, objectives, and some “nuts and bolts” of daily expectations. Please keep in mind that this is meant to be a group activity and it is not a time for individual parent conferences.
* Parking for that evening, we ask that everyone kindly park across the street from the Church in the Crystal Avenue parking lot. Please do not park in the school parking lot or in the Rite-Aid parking lot.
Hot Lunch Program— See attached lunch request sheet for September 13 – 24. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT LUNCH REQUEST SLIPS ARE DUE ON THE WEDNESDAY BEFORE THE WEEK OF THE LUNCH REQUEST. Therefore, requests for the week of September 13th are due no later than Wednesday, September 8th by 12 noon. Slips received after the deadline will be returned to the student.
☺ Please send in the full sheet if at all possible. (Half sheet only if necessary.) Do not cut the sheet into single days.
☺ Please send a check for the correct amount. Cash may be sent only if it is the exact amount. Remember cash is harder to trace if the order is misplaced or forgotten by the student.
S.T.A. Gift Certificate Program – This program will kick off on Tuesday, September 7th. See attached letter of introduction along with an order sheet. Usually, orders will be due on Mondays and sent home on Tuesdays. Please be sure to check it out!
Forms Request – Just a reminder to submit all the necessary paperwork that was sent to you this summer. Of vital importance are your child’s emergency card, green permission slip, and handbook acknowledgment. Please send them to school as soon as possible. Thank you!
Magazine Drive – Our annual Magazine Drive Fundraiser began on Tuesday, August 31st. As in years past, all students received a packet on that day. If you are participating in the buyout program you may discard the packet – you do not need to return it to school. To simplify the bookkeeping, all money will be tallied by the family.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: We are looking for people to help with the Magazine Drive Prize Store during lunch periods on the following dates: Friday, September 3rd, Wednesday, September 8th, and Monday, September 13th. If you are able to help, please contact Leigh Sciarappa at sciarappafarm @comcast.net.
SAVE THE DATE!!! – Family Carnival Night will be held on Thursday, September 16 from 6 – 8 PM in the school parking lot (in Aquinas Center if it rains). There will be games, prizes, fried dough, popcorn, hotdogs, and a DJ! Join us for some fun and time to get together with new and old friends. More information to follow.
Medication Permission Slip – See attached. If your child requires any prescription medication during school hours, we must have written authorization signed by the physician for each school year. The medication must be in the prescription bottle with the child’s name and correct dosage instructions on it. If you wish to give “blanket permission” for your child to receive over-the-counter medication when necessary such as Tylenol, Advil, Calamine Lotion, etc., please fill out the attached form with dosage instructions and your signature (doctor’s signature is not necessary for OTC medication.). Return the form with the medication in its original packaging labeled with your child’s name and grade. For your child’s protection, please do not send any medication out of the bottle in envelopes or plastic bags. We cannot give any child medication without authorization from the parent. New forms are needed for each school year – they do not carry over from one year to the next.
Before and After School Program Reminder – Payments are due at the time of service. A reminder that any student who arrives before 8:15 AM will be sent to the Before School Program and will be charged the $3.00 fee. Also, any student who has not been picked up by 2:50 PM will be sent to the After School Program and will be charged the $4.00 fee.
Gym Classes – These will begin the week of September 13th. Grades 1 – 4 will have gym class on Tuesdays and Grades 5 – 8 will have gym class on Thursdays. Students should wear their gym uniform which consists of an STA T-shirt, and/or sweatshirt, sweatpants and/or gym shorts, and sneakers (with non-marking soles) on their gym day. During the month of September, students may wear their gym shorts with the gym T-shirt on gym day. In colder weather, students may wear the gym shorts under the sweatpants. PLEASE LABEL EACH UNIFORM ITEM WITH THE STUDENT’S NAME. It helps us to return lost articles.
Head Checks – Our volunteer school nurses will be doing head checks for lice in the next couple of weeks. You will be notified of the dates for each grade. Please make sure that your child’s hair is clean and free of gel, mousse, hairspray. Also, girls should avoid braids or any complicated hairstyles as the nurses will need to remove any hair bands, elastics, clips, etc.
PTSO Note – We hope as many families as possible will join the PTSO. The PTSO dues are used to provide programs and educational activities for our students and families. There is absolutely no obligation or commitment on your part if you join. But, if you wish, your time and ideas are welcomed and appreciated.
UNIFORM SWAP- Do you need uniform parts? Do you have some spares? Let me know and I will assemble a swap list for next week’s Thursday Notice. The Swap is free. You need not offer clothing to request clothing. Hand-offs are to be handled via kid mail, not by the office staff. I look forward to getting the year off to a good start! Thank you! Laura El-Azem (elazem@hotmail.com/425-1970).
Volunteer Note: All volunteers must attend Protecting God’s Children training and complete the required paperwork. For additional information and a list of PGC training sessions, click on Volunteers or contact Mrs. Giberti.

How to make a report of sexual abuse:
Child sexual abuse is a crime in the State of New Hampshire and the Church. New Hampshire law requires that anyone who has reason to suspect that a child is being or has been abused or neglected must make a report to the Division for Children, Youth & Families (“DCYF”) of the State of New Hampshire, 1-800-894-5533. Any person who suspects or alleges child abuse on the part of a priest, deacon, employee, or volunteer of a parish, school, or institution of the diocese of Manchester is also encouraged to make a report to the Office for Ministerial Conduct, 603-669-3100.
