Committee Chairs If anyone is interested in spearheading the Outreach Committee, please speak with one of the officers. PTSO Mission and Goals The PTSO is gearing up for another year. The introductory letter was sent to all parents and can be found below. The PTSO asks for all previous members to spread the word with new families or families who have not participated in the past the wonderful programs the PTSO has each year and how vital raising our membership levels are to our continued existance. As our mission statement notes, the PTSO exists to support our school's present goals of nurturing faith, imparting knowledge, inspiring achievement and encouraging students to be responsible, considerate, contributing Catholic citizens to our community. If anyone has any thoughts as to how we might be able to further accomplish these goals, we would be happy to hear from you. Just as it takes a village to raise a child, it takes an entire school to help all the students grow and prosper. Any ideas would be appreciated. As you are spreading the word of the PTSO's good works, please keep in mind that some of our long-standing Committee Chairs might be looking to step down during the coming year. If anyone feels that they woud like to become part of something great--please feel free to meet with one of our Officers to discuss our current volunteer openings. |
Hopes and Dreams for 2009-2010 The PTSO hopes to continue the following projects: enrichment programs, meals networks, and March mini courses. We would also hope to expand the outreach programs to include not just collections for the community but possible interfaces with our community members that are less fortunate or shut-in. We would also like to start to organized our first set of meetings for late Fall. More information on dates and times to follow in future Thursday notices. Please start to gather ideas for future PTSO meetings and thoughts on expansion of current and future projects. |
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact one of the PTSO Officers:

July 2009
Dear St. Thomas Families--
The St. Thomas Aquinas School Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO) hopes all of our families have had a safe and fun filled summer. The organization asks that you take a few moments of your time to read this letter and the attached (above) newsletter for all of the fun yet educational programs the PTSO hopes to organize.
As our mission notes, the PTSO exists to support our school's present goals of nurturing faith, imparting knowledge, inspiring achievement, and encouraging students to be responsible, considerate, contributing Catholic citizens to our community.
Some of our families may not be aware that in adherence to our by-laws, we are NOT another fundraising group for the school. We are, however, responsible for hosting the enrichment programs that come into our school throughout the year such as the Laser Light show last February and the storyteller that visited the Kindergarten and the Pre-school classes.
Our community outreach projects include the winter coat and mitten drive which takes place in November and December and a form of Adopt-a-Family through the Community Health Services which provides support to various families in the community during the Christmas holiday season. Also, Easter Baskets are distributed in the spring to a needy family. And let us not forget, through the PTSO family, the Meals Network is offered and directly helps our own STA families confidentially when needed.
In the Spring Mini-Courses are organized by some of our family volunteers and outings are planned throughout the year for family fun.
The PTSO understands how busy we can be in our roles a families and parents and volunteers. But the bottom line is without increased participation and membership by ALL of the St. Thomas families the wonderful offerings of the PTSO are in danger of becoming obsolete. As stated above, we are prevented by our by-laws from raising funds to support our activities so that the only way to make ends meet is through membership revenue. Last year, less than ½ of the STA families chose to participate, yet all of the children benefited in some way from the PTSO program offerings.
The PTSO meets generally twice a year, in September or October and then a few months later to organize the spring events schedule. Thus, there is NOT a large time commitment necessary.
The information above describes the PTSO, but I hope my letter has offered additional insight to the good works the PTSO has achieved and would like to continue for our students and their families. Please consider joining the PTSO, and as a reminder, without everyone supporting the PTSO, the students and families of STA might potentially miss out on many wonderful opportunities.
Thank you for your time and consideration of this very important matter.
Sincerely,
Leigh Waring-Sciarappa

MEALS NETWORK
FAMILIES HELPING FAMILIES
Do you know of a family at St. Thomas Aquinas School who…
…has recently welcomed a new baby, or
…has suffered a death in the family, or
…is experiencing a serious medical problem?
The PTSO Meals Network is a group of volunteer families who are willing to prepare a meal (or meals) for these families to help them through times of trouble and transition.
If, at any time during the school year, you become aware of a family that could benefit from this program, simply contact the school office (432-2712) with the name and size of the family, as well as the number of meals needed, dates required, and any special requirements (food allergies, etc.).
The PTSO Meals Network will take it from there. The meals will either be delivered to the home, or they can be picked up at school.
PLEASE NOTE, THE NAME OF THE RECEIVING FAMILY WILL REMAIN CONFIDENTIAL TO THE SCHOOL OFFICE. The meals network will only receive information regarding the size of the family, the number of meals, and the dates needed.
